“Capturing the moments that cannot be reproduced, reflecting on the feelings that cannot be expressed.”
Anne Balt is a photographer, poet and designer drawn to what lies just beyond the obvious: the atmosphere of a place, the drama of a particular light, and the details that are easy to overlook. An aesthete by nature, she is fascinated by the many ways the world can be seen, felt, and interpreted. Having travelled and lived in twenty countries, her way of seeing has been shaped by encounters with different cultures.
Photography became a serious artistic pursuit in 2015, giving her a way to explore that fascination visually, experiment, and develop a language of her own. Her work centres on nature, landscapes, botanicals, and the changing character of light. She is particularly drawn to subdued colours, shadow, mist, and the quiet tension between what is revealed and what remains hidden.
For Anne, photography is not simply a record of what stands before the camera. It is an act of interpretation, shaped by light, colour, atmosphere, memory, and imagination. Sometimes the smallest detail holds the greatest weight; at other times, the scale and force of a landscape call for a wider view.
Her photographs have been shown in exhibitions and are held in private homes in the United States, Germany, Denmark, Greece, and France.
Writing and poetry have been part of her life for many years. They offer a way to explore the inner landscape, giving form to thoughts, memories, contradictions, and feelings that are not always easy to express. Photography and writing remain distinct practices, but both grow from the same impulse: to look more closely, question what she sees, and find a form for what moves her.
Alongside her photographic and literary work, Anne has created music videos for musicians around the world, designed album covers, and built websites for clients. These different forms of creative work allow her to explore image, atmosphere, and expression in different ways.
Her work is, above all, a continuing process of looking, experimenting, and finding her own way of seeing.
